# hmmm...
would you be so kind as to refresh my memory?

# Great film
'Scanners' about people who have psychic abilities and can make people's heads bleed just by thinking hard.

# cool
i remember this film were there were these prisoners, right, and they had these things, right, around their necks, and right, if they went past this, erm, thing, then their heads blew up. do you what that is? everyone always says its the running man, but its not.
(, Sun 28 Apr 2002, 12:49, archived)
# I would have said
"Running Man"

# Plus...
Also used in crazy Japanese film Battle Royale:

# wow have you seen that?
i couldnt find it showing anywhere near me.
(, Sun 28 Apr 2002, 13:10, archived)
# Curzon Soho, I think
You're right, it was radio signals, and they had to keep moving around the island as well, because certain sectors became 'hot' and would blow up any neck bombs in the area.

Bonkers film.

# the film was ok,
but mostly style over substance it has to be said.
If you were thinking "hmm, I know I'll try and make a cult film the kids will love and adults will be awfully shocked by", you'd make that.

# Maybe
but I was over there when it was released and saw the hysteria about juvenile crime...
This is a country that is currently shitting itself because as far as they can see , the kids are going out of control.Young people don't want to work in the oppressive environment their parents accepted, there have been several murders caused by teenagers and the Japanese don't know how to deal with it.
The measures they are talking about are extremely right-wing and ANYTHING that causes them to pause is a good thing.
Besides which it has KIDS BLOWING UP!!!!!!
Yees!!!
(, Sun 28 Apr 2002, 13:35, archived)
# no country knows what to do
with violent kids and/or teenagers - look at the insanity that's still going on the with Bulger killers over here. I wonder if it did make them pause, did it work do you know?
You're right tho - kids blowing up - hoorah! Might nip out later and blow some up meself
:)

# Nah it didn't really stop them
though I mean, the Japanese penal system is a total joke.
It's a mixture of naivete about crime and who commits it ( Koreans and Chinese , according to them) and fascism ( regular beatings for prisoners, no jury system, no rights for prisoners) which has left them in the position of not being able to do anything.
Then again in the 2 years that I lived there I never once locked my front door so they must be doing something right...
(, Sun 28 Apr 2002, 13:48, archived)
# what were
you doing there for 2 years?
(a friend of mind got busted in spain for drug dealing. He got put away in prison for a while no interpreter, no explanations, no one told him how long he'd be in there... after a month they let him go. Odd. He was guilty but odd nonetheless. He thought he might be in there for years)

# Same as everyone else over there
Teaching English.
It's funny, I miss and and don't miss it in equal measure.
On the one hand, good money, good food, some beautiful places no crime, you feel totally safe , hardly ever rains....
On the other hand, rampant racism, sexism and conformity as an art form.

# well it is in the running man
after being framed for commiting a crime, arine is label the butcher of bakersfield and is put into a prison camp with a neck collar.

then you see some futile escape plans as some idiot runs past the barrier and *boom*. luckily for arnie his hax0r friend uses all his skills and the gate is open and they run to safety.

i know i'vee seen in it in another cheesy 80's film , it's not exactly original

aprologies, this film is lying around in my flat and regularily gets watchedwhen we're drunk

# I believe
it's Fortress with Christopher Lambert, although I may be wrong.
And they use the same idea in Battle Royale also
(, Sun 28 Apr 2002, 13:07, archived)
# battle royale was fun
except: there wast really a barrier, more a radio signal
and if they left the island, boom.
(, Sun 28 Apr 2002, 13:10, archived)
# Well it still killed the little miscreants
and that's all that mattered.
Was I the only one on the side of the adults in that movie?
And what was up with Beat Takeshi helping them and stuff at the end?
Kill them All!!

# It's Called
Fortress with Christopher Lambert. There was a sequel released on video not so long ago.
(, Sun 28 Apr 2002, 14:28, archived)
# also
Wedlock with Rutger Haur.
they had neck-brace thingies, but they could escape if they found out who thier 'wedlock-partner' was. so it was a shit device really.
