I think your anguish is entirely justified - however,in the event of a major newsworthy trauma that is likely to upset you should the piss be ripped, b3ta probably isn't the best place to hang out immediately afterwards. There are lots of sites (rightly) saying how awful the whole thing is. This is just a...different vibe. ;)

ActuallyI came over here looking for some relief, something to make me laugh. This particular incident just kinda hit me hard, as it wasn't that long ago that I was in engineering school- and in less than two years, my son will be doing it too.
As for gun control- you're preaching to the choir. I'd love to get rid of every fucking one of them.

As I said, personally I fully understand your grief. And yes, I had a feeling I was preaching to the choir, that's why I tried to be careful to specify 'you as a nation', as opposed to you personally.

did you consider that possibly, if you're seriously looking for escapism in the wake of a major tragic world eventb3ta may be best avoided for a few days. just some advice.
