# I've always wondered what a ping is.
It appears when playing online games and I never know whether to go for a server with a high ping or a low ping.
Or if I should have a high ping or a low ping. Would someone explain this to me in simple terms please?

# low
it's the number of miliseconds it takes for a byte (i think) to get from your pc to the server and back

# Thanks.
I'll remember that.

# Close
It's the number of miliseconds it takes for a complete packet to be sent to the server, processed, and then returned to you (so not just a single byte) :).

# a ping is
simply the time it takes an echo request packet to receive a response. The delay is commonly known as the 'ping' time. It just determines the quality of a connection from you to your destination ( and back )
