Swords for war became longer during the 13th century and their grips extended to allow them to be used with both hands if necessary

Mine are too.
yet my naval sabres are much easier to wield. Still no match for the feel of a good full Katana.

mainly military ( I collect lots of militaria )
Some naval sabres ( or cutlasses to you pirate types ). I have 2 cavalry officer's swords from the Boer war ( one my great-grandfather's )
Some nice Dirks, a Borneo Dyak ( headhunter's sword complete with human hair ) and around 25 various Katana, Wakizashi and tantos. a couple of Bos and a naginata. More blades than that but thats most of the sword types.
