have you tried a negative scanner?you might require a smallish hammer to get them in tho

nope, they do what they say on the tina wee scanner for photo negatives

they're in little plastic caes that fit into the slide machine...will it still fit in there?

Seconded!Seriously though, most slides will come apart to get at the film by itself. They should scan better if they are flat against the scanner bed.
