# You REALLY think an LHC compo would be better?
I think it's you who needs to check their 'Shit Compo Detector'.
(, Wed 10 Sep 2008, 20:06, archived)
# It requires far more imagination than "Thom Yorke looks funny so I'll make him look normal".
And seeing as it says APART FROM what was predicted to happen, it could be ANYTHING, which could be a brilliant challenge.

# It was a good suggestion until
everyone turned the LHC into a bandwagon of shit. Just weird physics entries would have worked.
(, Wed 10 Sep 2008, 20:08, archived)
# to be fair, it might work...but knowing people, it'll just be shit with a couple of gems.
(, Wed 10 Sep 2008, 20:09, archived)
# The board has been full of LHC pics over the past week anyway
and although dinosaurs may be fun, I am willing to bet most entries would be the same two or three jokes based around the first page of a google image search for 'dinosaur'.

There are no shit challenges, only shit entries. I guess it's just easier to moan about the subject than put any effort into making funny pictures.

# It's as much fault of the challenge than of the entries - one that doesn't seem to require much imagination won't seem to require much effort, either.
And it wouldn't necessarily just be about the LHC, as AW just said "Just weird physics entries would have worked."
And it's contemporary, which is always fun to look back on.

# they could always put Thom Yorke on a dinosaur
why do people feel limited, photoshop Thom Yorke could mean draw a picture of a giant pea wanking off in to a nun's open cassock while the ghost of Thom Yorke looks disapprovingly on.

These kids, no imagination
(, Wed 10 Sep 2008, 20:14, archived)
# Which is my point.
If the challenge doesn't SEEM to require much imagination (a challenge about Thom Yorke would really provoke the obvious - his eye, I expect), it's not very likely that it will.
(, Wed 10 Sep 2008, 20:16, archived)
# you can't blame people being lazy on the person setting the challenge
that's like saying art galleries shouldn't exist because someone will walk in and out without getting anything from it.
(, Wed 10 Sep 2008, 20:19, archived)
# Not at all,
I'm saying why not pick a more imaginative challenge?
We know what the problem is that causes shit challenges, why not try and avoid them?

And no-one leaves an art gallery without getting anything from it, don't be silly.
(, Wed 10 Sep 2008, 20:20, archived)
# A challenge about the LHC
seems to provoke the obvious to me too - lots of pics of people in lab coats being sucked into black holes.

'Shit' challenges always produce good pics and 'good' challenges always produce shit pics. It's all down to whoever is making them.

If you are really worried about this challenge being shit, why not make it better by creating a series of fantastic pictures and jokes? You can even have Thom Yorke being sucked into a black hole in Switzerland if you like.
(, Wed 10 Sep 2008, 20:22, archived)
# Not at all:
Apart from black holes, strangelets, and the return of the antichrist to Earth, what awesome physics side-effects will the LHC create when it's switched on at the same time this week's compo goes live?
(, Wed 10 Sep 2008, 20:26, archived)
# If b3ta has taught us anything
it's that people never bother reading the instructions for the challenge.

It would be a week of shitty black hole, strangelet and anti-christ jokes, coupled with something sublime from Monkeon that nobody else would ever have thought of.
