# If I remember correctly;
the first dinosaur discovered was a large therapod called Megalosaurus. The second was Iguanadon. They were discovered in the same place, and when Megalosaurus was found, an Iguanadon thumb-spike was found with it and these Victorian paleontologists thought that Megalosaurus had a horn on it's nose. That picture is of a mock-up of Megalosaurus from the Carnegie Collection. It's either that, or they thought that Iguanadon had a horn on it's nose until they found the second thumb-spike. Something of that nature.

I remember it being on a documentary in the late 90s with Walter Cronkite.

# It's the latter
They thought Iguanadon had a spike on its nose, but it had spiky thumbs, for cracking eggs at a guess

# Well actually...
if we are getting technical, the tooth of iguanodon was discovered first but described after Megalosaurus (though the famous 'Scrotum humanum' may also be from Megalosaurus which predates both). Thecodontosaurus (also a dinosaur) was known even earlier but not recognised as such. (Well obviously it couldn't be recognised as a dinosaurs as they didn't exist then as it were, but it was not identified as being anything big, or different or interesting).

And yes, Iguanodon does have thumb spikes that were originally misidentifed as nose horns, their function is uncertain but egg-cracking seems pretty unlikely. Sorry for all this unnecessary detail, comes with the job...
