# Well you see Darth Vader's apprentice was a megalomaniac who had been booted out of the Empire in disgrace twice, before he returned in an unelected capacity and took control over the entire government.
The parallels are pretty clear, I think.

# Let's see what Angus Deayton has to say about this

# Surely you mean:
"One was a megalomaniac who had been booted out of the Empire in disgrace twice, before he returned in an unelected capacity and took control over the entire government.

The other is Darth Vader's apprentice"

Blackguard, sir, blackguard!

# *fucking runs*
I for one do NOT welcome our dark Lord of the Sith overloards...

EDIT:
I was trying to think of something to do with Knights of the Old Republic, when I thought... surely if it was a Republic, there wouldn't be any Knights.
Or Lords for that matter.

# I think you're thinking too deeply about such things

# You're probably right
but it beats work

# Great game.
Great game.

Bring me KOTOR 3 pleeeeeeease O game gods!
(, Thu 10 Sep 2009, 14:45, archived)
# I thought the next one was KOTOR online?
KOTOR online The Old Republic

# Ah balls to online.
MMO does not necessarily mean it's an improvement.

I've self-imposed a ban on online gaming, since it would undoubtedly mean an end to my career, marriage and the last vestiges of a social life that I still possess.

# I thought they weren't going to do KOTOR3 - they are doing the KOTOR MMO instead?

# Naaah.
Republican Rome had a class of equitates (I think that's the word), which were the (obvious) forerunners of the chevaliers and hence knights.

Venice was a republic with knights and a nobilty; the same applied to the Dutch Republic. And the English Republic, for that matter.

# I read an interesting article on Venice the other day.
Turns out they're all a bunch of cunts really Venetians.

# Many of them had difficulties seeing, too.
Venetian blinds.
(, Thu 10 Sep 2009, 15:02, archived)
# It did actually say in the article,
talking about blindness, that the elders of Venice cut out the eyes of the clockmakers who made the big clock so that they couldn't make such a beautiful one for anyone else.

# Tsar Ivan IV allegedly did something similar with the architect of the Kremlin.
Dangerous lunatic... but a remarkably admirable man in many other respects, IIRC. Did a lot to make Russia a modern state.
(, Thu 10 Sep 2009, 15:11, archived)
# Sorry, but did you just use the terms "Russia" and "modern state" in the same sentence?
