I love you Mediocre. Never did I think that just seeing 8 letters on a web forum would brighten my days, and warm my nights.

Oh Mediocre, how I love you!

I am going to write you a poem now.

# ex-girlfriend of mine
had a laptop with ME on it. never reinstalled, never used antivirus, never cleaned anything out, still using ie6. this was 2005. no fucking wonder the damn thing was so slow -- absolutely unusable. for some reason she refused to let me reinstall it even though i clearly knew what i was doing.

this wasn't the reason we split up.

# I find it just generally annoying.
However I haven't had any problems for a while. Either the updates are working, or dealing with the problems is second nature now.

# Am I the only one not to have any problems with windows?
Only trouble I had with Vista was 'permissions' not letting me run a game. Other than a slightly annoying loading time when I turn my laptop (I put that partly down to it's age) no probs. Nowt.

98 and xp crashed once or twice. What am I doing wrong? Or right?
(, Thu 22 Oct 2009, 20:55, archived)
# See above.
I installed an update on Vista and it wouldn't boot up afterwards, but to rectify it was simple as anything. First major issue with Windows. I suspect it is because we aren't geeks ;)

Also, I have just remembered I completely neglected to send you the HQ file of Air Hockney.
(, Thu 22 Oct 2009, 20:58, archived)
# No, xp and vista have been fine for me
(, Thu 22 Oct 2009, 21:00, archived)
# Haven't used vista
but XP has been stable here for years
(, Thu 22 Oct 2009, 21:06, archived)
# I am not a fan of Vista,
purely for the fact that I was so used to XP and the way it worked. However, my computer broke so I only have use of a Vista laptop now. However, it most certainly was not Microsoft's fault my computer died. The blame lies wholly at the feet of the Gaymer Cider Company and Smirnoff Vodka.
(, Thu 22 Oct 2009, 21:11, archived)
# i think vista is okay, except for
having to tell it two or three times that, yes, i really did want to do that.
this lappy has xp on it, and every now and again a factory reset fixes everything.
(, Thu 22 Oct 2009, 21:18, archived)
# And giving yourself permission to do what you just said you wanted to do.

# I once had
a minor issue with Win98, a 'winmodem' and the internet... but other than that it's been fine.... 98, 98SE, 2000 Server, XP, Vista 32 and now Vista 64.

In other news, my new monitor arrives tomorrow, I've finally gone LCD (decent CRTs being silly expensive and difficult to source). A Samsung SyncMaster T240. Wish me luck!

# no prob's with xp for me
other than ones i've created, one minor issue with an sp3 update and a driver but....

i'll also dump this here, what i wanted to do earlier but i couldn't remember the error number

# I think the problem is that you don't have enough extraneous .exes running in the background.
You have obviously been far too diligent in using Task Manager to shut them down and MSconfig to prevent them running in future. If you do that, you will rarely get to experience the crashes and freezes that so many people seem to enjoy.

# crikey
seems i've been doing it right all this time :)

# vista's fine
i've never been sure how much of the hatred was just fat chin-beards venting nerd rage at microsoft because they weren't linux, and how much of it was actually valid, because i've never had any real problems with it at all.

except that it's fucking up my sound at the minute. for no good reason it's now five times louder than it was. i suspect my crappy speakers are probably at fault.
