As to no observers... maybe. Might have been a few left overs of the previous epoch
around to go 'OH SHI-!' just as the universe torched off. If there was they are gone

Well, technically, I believe the universe was packed in one singularity, so there would be no place for any leftover outside observers at all. Possibly. I don't know.
Rumour has it it was all even before my grandfather's time.
