I fully agree
This is why
I'm going to try and see
if I can at least pollute
my OWN post
with this kind of tomfoolery
Of course, it looks like poo on a Mac, too :(
Also,
And sorry to hear about the file loss. I've only lost a week of work before that way (well, in my case it was deciding for some stupid reason to type in 'rm -Rf *' one directory up from where I thought it was) and that was painful enough. Good luck.

I don't have many comics :(
And I'm loathe to repost the Peanuts Apocalypse ones much more at hte minute for fear of even beginning to bore myself with them, let alone anyone else
So I'm changing tack a bit to something that at least has black eyes.

are you sure that you can't pull anything off the stick with dd or something?
tough break if a paper's gone down the can, most I've managed to lose is an afternoon of code from a poorly placed rm command, that was bad enough.

Dungeons and Dragons is not going to help with this....
Although the idea of rolling a six to save a file is appealing right now.
What's dd?
And how are things over the road?

rumoured to be short for destroy data, it's a really low level utility for copying data.
there's a couple of higher level things based on it do you don't trash something while using it. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dd_(Unix)
I don't know if it's going to be any help though, you may have already tried a few things.
I have had my arse kicked for a month by a visting fellow (fairly famous in my feild) so I actually did some work. And I get to go to a conference in New Zealand in February, so I'm pretty chuffed. And you? other than losing a paper?

Otherwise, really well.

If I get my job
I have Kyoto. Or it might be Tokyo. I shall also be entertaining myself with Chicago and Halifax.
If I don't get my job I shall be sitting in the park here drinking cheap beer, accosting young mothers for cents and growing an impressive collection of warts.

You want to get a job in Germany
They complained soon after I got here because the tax on beer went up a cent or two a bottle. Actually it may have been as much as FIVE CENTS. I don't remember, chiefly because I'd just moved from a country selling bottled beer at about £1.80/bottle and was in one selling it for 70 fucking cents even after the tax increase!
They don't know they're born!
