I'd go with the 50mmas I'm almost certain a £100ish 75-300mm will be shit, while a £100ish 50mm lens is some very good stuff indeed.

Also, if you are interested in that sort of thing, I'd seriously consider getting the 70-300mm USM IS lens insteadbut get the 50mm first
