This is a normal post RIP Kirsty;
Not wishing to put a dampener on anyone's festive spirit, but there is a story here that many may not know. Kirsty was killed in 2000; diving in Mexico, she pushed her Son out of the path of a speedboat owned by a millionaire. An employee of the owner said he was driving, and got a small nominal fine, but there are eye-witnesses that say he wasn't driving the boat. In 2005, the Pogues re-released the above track to raise money for a 'justice for Kirsty' campaign. Another part of the tale: Kirsty's most successful single was "A New England" - written by Billy Bragg. She thought it was too short so he wrote an extra verse for her; since her death, Bragg adds the verse.
Kirsty was a brilliant singer/songwriter who died far too young, saving her Son's life. Here she is performing the Bragg track; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vnzpg5GgQCo

I was working on cruise ships out there at the time and I think she was diving shorediving off Cozumel at a restricted/protected from motorized boats etc area called Chankanab (sp?)

This is a normal post Chankanaab reef, yeah.
"18 December 2000 she and her sons went diving at the Chankanaab reef, part of the National Marine Park of Cozumel, in a designated diving area that watercraft were restricted from entering. With the group was a local veteran divemaster, Iván Díaz. As the group were surfacing from a dive, a powerboat moving at high speed entered the restricted area" - Wikip.

This is a normal post I kinda relate to it,
because I used to teach divers in Koh Tao, Thailand, and while there a student was killed in a similar way. The speedboat prop chopped straight through the metal valve on top of the air tank, and cut into their head. I knew the instructor - who had to pull them on to the boat, with the back of their skull missing. He was utterly devastated - and also, had no income at all for a very long time while it was all investigated. It's happened several times in Koh Tao, which has a terrible safety record (and the odd murder too). Despite all that, I'd still absolutely recommend going, because it's paradise.
