the headline is misleading
they are asking for the cases to be dismissed, not suing for damages.
To be honest, I think they have a point. I don't think somebody deciding to set up a machine gun nest in their hotel room is the kind of thing they should be liable for, though I'd probably give them a low rating on tripadvisor if I was a victim

I understand that part but
it says the hotel company is bringing suit against the victims. I guess it's some legal bullshit, but it still puzzles me.
