I'd leave it on show...
If I moved in and discovered that I would keep it on show.
On a sadder note, a house I once owned had the message "I still love you Susan" painted in foot high letters on the floorboards under the carpet.
I later discovered that a previous owner had killed himself after his wife left him.
It kinda creeped me out a bit.
