This is a normal post I think what is causing the friction here
is that b3ta is full of creative people who have been and done the student thing and are now struggling to make their own stuff off their own back and get noticed in a world oversaturated by creatives - seeing upcoming students throwing money at their student film to get the advantage in this industry is likely to nark people who are going to end up competing with them

This is a normal post Chill out on the rational answers please.
I'm lucky if I get one situation to be angry at a week.

This is a normal post Yeah I think you've got it bang on
I understand why people don't agree with it, especially if they've been making cool stuff for nowt. And I wouldn't expect that many people to fund it. It's just the comments about being 'arrogant' or 'entitled' which are really fucking wrong. I've helped out with a few of their projects before and they're some of the most hardworking people I've met (filming for 22 hours a day for three days straight because that's the longest the uni will let you have the equipment for, for example). They're not asking for the money so they can spaff out some shite in HD and expect a 1st, they just want to make something that'll stand out and look more like a professional movie than a student film.

This is a normal post I think you've hit the nail on the head
You need money to stand out. That's the annoying reality of film. But if that's what it boils down to, what scope is there for actual talent?

It annoys me that your friends are taking that approach. Why aren't they trying something different? Trying to be resourceful? The fact is, most student films are incredibly mediocre. I'm sure they're lovely hard working people... but there are so many of them doing the same shitty thing. Anyone who makes films knows you can get away with a hell of a lot if you film it on a flashy camera.

If they think 5k is needed to put them ahead of the competition, then they don't deserve it. Sorry to be harsh.

I think you as an electronics student would be far more deserving of the money, personally.

This is a normal post Yup
Also, although this doesn't bother me, there is a lot to be learned when you have a real limited budget. Part of the learning process, paying your dues as it were.
