I don't understand the surprise about this
They've been killing people in Yemen with drone attacks for years. Drones don't magically appear from thin air. They don't fly off carriers, and the sort of drones used don't have continent-spanning ranges. Therefore they have to come from somewhere nearby.
They could only ever be in Saudi.

The thing that gets me is that serious news organisations are reporting it as if they're surprised that there's a base anywhere at all.
