This is a link post Celtic Manager Neil Lennon chinned by Hearts fan.
Don't know why he did it or really care. I just wonder why he did the dramatic leap in the air to actually hit him. People like this make me piss, it's a game. Other fans wind me up and I do it to them but it's no more than that, why some people go further I'll never know.

This is a normal post I used to love football as a kid
Hate it now. Tribalistic violence, overpaid players, theatrical sissies, blah blah blah

This is a normal post What the fuck is going on up there?
I know Celtic v Rangers has always been a Catholic v Protestant conflict by proxy, but why has it suddenly flared up so much? And why is Lennon in particular copping so much of it?

This is a normal post Lennon's always been a bit of a hate figure
He's got a fair temper on him, and he was never the most gracious of players.

I doubt the attack had much to do with sectarianism - Hearts fans tend to care a lot less about that kind of thing than, say, Rangers fans

This is a normal post ehrm...Sir, i think you will find that...
Those fucking smelly dirty Jambo wankends frequently sing sectarian songs , wave unionist flags, salute with the red hand of Ulster to the point where: due to their smaller size of club (as opposed to Rangers) they have now commonly become referred to as ..."The Diet Huns"

Edinburgh's other team "HIBERNIAN" has strong Irish roots but has emancipated itself from any of that bigoted shite displayed by the Jambo's and Huns etc...unfortunately in spite of all the subtitled French films , poetry reading & fine wine the Hibernian fans so often indulge in...the team on the park are hopeless.... alas

(in case it's not obvious, Man City are Sunni and United are Shiite).

This is a normal post well
Essentially Rangers and Celtic supporters have been winding each other up for decades only now it's got to the point where certain people seem to be taking it a step further by being all mad and nutty about things by sending bombs, smashing up players cars, sending threats, etc. To make matters worse the clubs have started accusing the SFA of being biased and corrupt which is being reported in the media in the usual "aaaaaaahhhhhhhhh" type of way. This is then being picked up by the total nutjob supporters and it's now snowballing out of control as a result. The media who are the ones doing the criticising are also, ironically, just as responsible for stoking the flames.

It would help greatly though if Managers and club staff kept their mouths shut when poked with a stick by journalists trying to and usually succeeding in making them say something inflammatory.

This is a normal post Its all gone a bit to far hasnt it?
I am an FA and KNVB (Dutch FA) qualified ref and ref top level amateur football and I would be scared to be out on the pitch as a ref or lino in Scottish FA football. I think its a total disgrace what has gone on and on for years in Scotland, this season its just boiled on and on. I dont support any of them and I am an Atheist so the religion card means nothing to me too. I just see thugs off and on the pitch spoiling for a fight. In this day and age of where football is at in most of the world its a disgrace.
I would really like UEFA to step in and remove the licence for the Scottish FA. Ban them from Europe for a few years, also the Reffs could play a part in hurting the clubs that want to carry on this shit.
Here is the lines from the FIFA manual which is also viable for UEFA competitions.
"a decision to stop or not to stop a match due to spectator interference or any problem in spectator areas" - so basically if the crowd start the sectarian chanting the ref should blow the whistle and gather the linos and walk to the dressing room. Game Over and report made to the FA to explain why.
Also reffs have the ultimate cover all rule.
"a decision to abandon a match for whatever reason"
Imagine a build up to an old firm game - all the bullshit in the press, all the usual build up. On match day the teams get on the pitch and just about to start when the ref decides the two sides have been antagonising each other all week so he think its not a sporting occasion and he abandons the game. Imagine the uproar it would cause! the TV companies would go mental at having no game to broadcast, hopefully lean on the FA more to take harsher action.
The only way to stop this is to fine and enforce bans and employ more people to watch the CCTV and get the idiots arrested and banned for life from every ground in Europe.

Bit of a rant but this kind of rubbish has no place in "my" football ;)

This is a normal post You have some interesting and well thought out points there, from what is an interesting and wholly relevant perspective.
Personally, the way I'd solve the sectarian problem would be to scrap Scottish football because it's shite anyway.
(, Thu 12 May 2011, 10:24, , Reply)
This is a normal post Yeah that too ;)
But I was wearing my ref's hat (oh shit I wasn't - a ref is not allowed to wear a hat under any condition) but yeah I agree Scottish football is not up to much. Maybe that's why they have this sub game of sectarian violence going on?

This is a normal post Sorry, it is *your* football.
You chose to get actively involved in what is, to all intents and purposes, tribal warfare.

The *only* difference here is that the Scottish supporters are more vocal and open about it.

This is a normal post Not been to many amatuer football games then?
Normally the worst thing to happen is that the away team only buy me a half and not a pint after the game!
Yes in the 10 years I have been doing this I have been called all the names under the sun and a couple of times threatened but most of the times reminding the player that I am in charge and will take action stop it all.
Action for hitting a ref would be an automatic 3 year ban from all KNVB sanctioned football and a fine, also the whole club would probably get a ban, if not the offending team. I have seen football clubs driven out of business because their fans attacked a ref. If a club is banned the members wont pay subs so they have no money.
