I agree
from the initial "It's halloween so the predator can look like someone dressed up" (ET) to "kid finds alien tech and makes it work" (flight of the navigator) to "We are assassins, isn't being dangerous the point?" (throwaway hard man line) it smacked of someone who saw too many movies from the 80's they liked but failed to see what made them good.
Seems like they are going down the `ready player one` route and thinking that if they throw in enough references then they won't have to make a decent film.
Also seems like 'predator for kids' with the amount of kids in the kid's movie.
