This is a normal post 2nd time I heard the bag-for-life thing today!
It says you need to use a reusable bag 7,100 times before they have less impact than single-use bags,

The BBC Radio science/comedy show, "Infinite Monkey Cage" is on TV today all day, on loop, on red button; 100th episode special. Freeview 601, Sky chan 981. Brian Blessed, Eric Idle, etc.

And the polymer guy on that - whose name I've forgotten - gave pretty much the same factoid.

Edit: It just looped; he's Tony Ryan from Sheffield Uni.

This is a normal post i think my sainsburys bag with an elephant on the side has racked up a whopping 80 or so uses so far
so, might take another 200 or so years of me going back and forth to sainsburys before the environment thanks me and says well done

This is a normal post Yes, if you just account for the energy used.
But the point is that you don't throw the bag for life away,so it doesn't enter the waste stream, get shipped to China (cause that's cheaper than recycling it in the UK), where it gets dumped in a river so it can choke dolphins or some other charismatic marine animals.
