This is a question Not-stalgia

Willenium tugs our sleeve and says: Tell us why the past was a bit shit. You may wish to use witty anecdotes reflecting your own personal experience.

Racist.

I'm putting them in group 1.
Having added the caveat about these covering ranges of reactions. Let's whittle mine down a little;

1. Love, like or at least do not dislike.

2. Do not like, may or may not have seen them.

3. Would belong in group 2 if not for the fact they need to have a go at group 1, or the films themselves.

I do agree though, probably the majority of people are indifferent.

This doesn't work. Group 1 has to care enough about the films in order to upset Group 3 into having a go at them for it.

OK, you can do your own version if you like.
Groups 1 and 2 are pretty much irrelevant anyway. The question is, why do people care if you like Star Wars, when they are either not interested or don't like the films themselves.

This is common - music produces similar nosepoking, but Star Wars seems particularly controversial.

Probably because people go on and on about it like it's something.

The inherent tribal nature of man, probably.
The same reason people wear t-shirts with HACKETT emblazoned on them, I suppose.

Because they're called Ollie and are an absolute scream at parties?

I assumed it was Father Jack's fan club.
