This is a question Addicted

Cigarettes, gambling, porn and booze. What's your addiction? How low have you sunk and how have you tried to beat it?

Thanks to big-girl's-blouse for the suggestion

Apart from the EVERY weekend, Friday and Saturday alcohol binge that has spellbinded me for the last 6 years...... (I think Cirhossis is surely on the way)

Downloading music. I hope no music execs are reading this because I just can't help it.

I trawl through allmusic.com searching for the best artists across all genres. I check all the discographies making sure I'm only downloading the best albums.

The worst thing is...

The only reason I do this is so that in the pub when people discuss music I can say "I've got that!" And look all smug and smarmy as I have a better music collection than eeeeeveryone else.

You haven't got a better music collection than everyone else
You've got the ability to download, and check discogs, and basically cheat at record collecting. What you've actually got is a bunch of icons on a screen, at shitty quality, with none of the warmth or tangible joys that come with owning records.

Yes, yes, angry online, but you're taking all the joy and honour out of being a record collector, so fuck you.

As long as people remain individuals, with personal and unique tastes in things like music, everyone will always have their own, personal, 'best' collection.

Which really means that no one will ever have the definitive BEST collection anyway.

I collect digital music because my taste tends to differ from day to day, from mood to mood. My house is not big enough to stuff such a huge physical collection into.

I'll take joy out of whatever I want
So erm... No! Fuck you!

By the way there is no 'warmth or tangible joy' out of owning records. Well not to me anyway. I've gone through about 3 OK Computers and those lousy CD cases keep breaking, book gets wet with my beer/semen etc etc..

Anyway this is my addiction so leave me be
