I got marked down on my annual review last year......because I didn't have a high enough profile with the senior managers. My boss's boss's argument was that he couldn't defend me in the "levelling" process (so I was marked down) because he didn't have evidence as to the level of my contribution. Except that he did, in the form of the review written by my manager. Senior boy just chose to ignore it.
