They wouldn't let my mum joinMy mum for many years was with RBS because when she spent a certain amount, a small percentage of that would go to the Woodland Trust. The Woodland Trust then moved to the Co-op so my mum tried to get an account there. But she only works 3 days a week in a nursery, and earns less than £15,000 a year so they felt she could not be trusted, despite always paying off bills immediately and never ever having once gone overdrawn. So yes, I'm sure they're lovely - if you're rich enough!
She then tried Sainsbury's, but for the same reason they gave her a maximum of £100 on her credit card every month, so she went back to RBS where she was welcomed with open arms and a much better deal.
