This is a question Redundant technology

Music on vinyl records, mobile phones the size of house bricks and pornography printed on paper. What hideously out of date stuff do you still use?

Thanks to boozehound for the suggestion

I went into Currys today...
Can you believe it? There is still a shop, in the outside world, that sells electricals? I thought the internet had caused all of them to shut down.

There were even people in it!

I noticed that my local PC World is now part PC World, part Currys
which is pretty handy, I can avoid both shops at the same time.

If the people are anything like me...
...they are only there to take a look at the technology - heft the phones, see if the mp3 players fit in their pockets, look at the TV from the back, that kind of thing - before ordering the same thing online.

Do I feel guilty about it? A little. Does it stop me? ...

currys fail
went into my local one yesterday (iknow, I know...) to see a sign saying 'we'll price match anyone locally' - robert dyas next door are knocking out extrnal hard drives on sale, so I ask if they'll do one for the same price? sales droid wanders off to check, comes back.
'no, they have to be the EXACT same make and model for us to price match.'
so...I have the money, I'll take one off you right now, but becuase they're a different brand, you wont take my cash?
went straight into robert dyas and bought theirs instead. tossers.

Weird.

They sell everything...
I like it, as you can find decent tools, next to a slow cooker, next to a monkey filled with beans to keep your hands warm.

Currys are shit now
I went in on Saturday to buy a phone. I wanted the cheapest cordless they had.

There were about 15 to choose from, 2 of which were fine, £15.99 and £19.99. So I ask the 11 year old spiky haired 'erbert to sell me one of them. Either one will do. 'I'll check'. . . . zzzzzzz . . . . 'No, we 'aven't got either of those'.

'OK, which one do you have?'

'Don't know. Which one do you want?'. *Sigh*. OK, so sell me the next one, £24.99 . . . . zzzzzz . . . . 'No, we 'avent got that one'.

'Do you have any phones at all in stock?'

'Don't know. You got to tell me which one you want, and I will look it up on the computer'. 'Didn't we just do that, 3 times?'.

'Yeah, but we didn't have any of them'.

'OK, that's great. I think I'll leave it'.

There were even people in it!
Including you, apparently.

Anyway - COMET FTW.

It was like an Olde Worlde Curiosity.
People picking things up, and feeling them, before buying.

I miss those days.

comet are a big pile of shit
Went into one last time I was buying a desktop pc,
with a grand and a half in cash, asked them what knockoff they'd do on a pc - to be told that the prices were what they were.

Went next door to pc world where they were happy to take my money and do me a good deal.
