This is a question Common

Freddy Woo writes, "My wife thinks calling the front room a lounge is common. Worse, a friend of hers recently admonished her daughter for calling a toilet, a toilet. Lavatory darling. It's lavatory."

My own mother refused to let me use the word 'oblong' instead of 'rectangle'. Which is just odd, to be honest.

What stuff do you think is common?

RANT ALERT! And not the type you may think.
I'm considering giving up on this week's QOTW because it's bringing out the very worst of snobbishness in us all and forcing me to mutter..."You stuck up cunt!" at almost every other post.

Added to which it says TELL US YOUR STORY not List in full just how your way of doing and saying things is correct and everyone else is clearly a)stupid or b)common.

I live in a multicultural Britain and by that I don't just mean that the people who live around me are not all white Anglo-Saxons. Some of them are ignorant, some are well educated, some are even middle class.

It's all about diversity and I like it - even when I don't.

I think this QOTW is playing to the nasty and mean minded streak in all of us.

I look down on him but she looks down on me.
(For those of you who don't get that, it's TWTWTW).

And you know something I'm so much of a bloody bleeding heart liberal that I even support the right to use sodding txt speak and poor grammar, god help us!

/rant over

See you all next week.

Lol
I think b3ta should be split into "nice team" and "evil team". I had absolutely nothing for the nice QOTW a couple of weeks back. Us evil twats can hold down the fort this week and you can keep the QOTW fires burning for me when a nice one comes around.

Yeah, you're right
I'm too bloody nice for my own good.

Fucksocks.

It's honestly nowt personal
But it is nice to vent somewhere every now and again. If it weren't for QOTW's like this there would be a lot more mass shootings in the world.

I'm not taking it personally
I'm just angling for clicks putting the other side of the argument.
(, Thu 16 Oct 2008, 18:56, closed)
Sorry.
I have a lot of spleen to vent at the moment, and much of it has to do with poseurs and fakes that inhabit this particular city. Apparently I've already offended a few with one of them.

We'll see you later, I guess.

Completely agreed.
Have a click.
(, Thu 16 Oct 2008, 19:03, closed)
agreed.
very few of these stories seem to be about people being common at all...
(, Thu 16 Oct 2008, 19:25, closed)
Supporting the right
to use poor grammar?! *looks aghast*

My Dearest Clucking Belle
I was even starting to agree with you, you evil Grauniad reading liberal wet blanket, until you admitted that you would accept txt spk and poor grammar.

Who are you, and what have you done with the real Chickenlady?
(, Thu 16 Oct 2008, 21:03, closed)
No, no, no, no
I do not like it and would rather not accept it.

However as I am so fecking liberal I fully support their right to do it.

I'm in favour of free speech even if that means I hate hearing it, or reading it.

If I'm allowed to find it reprehensible then sadly they are also allowed to use it.

Bloody egalitarian liberal views.

Bloody good work missus.

Remind me to cook you dinner sometime.

Ah Chickie
You just got my second (and probably final) click.

See you next week...
(, Fri 17 Oct 2008, 2:53, closed)
You make a very good point.
I think the mods were having a laugh when they followed the Spoilt Brats question with this.

Still, being QOTW there will always be some quality among the lists of pet peeves and the inane snobbery.

fair rant
il be honest having somewhere to anoymously (spelling??) vent is nice- hense so many posts by so many people (i know im not alone)

Couldn`t agree more!
I'm so glad i read as far as your message! I was getting so angry that i thought i should stop before i popped!

I think calling someone common in the first place is an awful thing to do and was reserved for pre 20th century Aristocrats, who lets face it, were nob-ends.

I think most people wrote about how they hate poor, ignorant or stupid people...which is harsh but is going to happen... It's the ammount of people who think Regional accents are common that got me?! Show me someone who HASN'T got a regional accent!?....anyway....

Sorry for ranting as a reply! Just wanted to say thanks for saying what (I hope) most of us are thinking!
