This is a question Common

Freddy Woo writes, "My wife thinks calling the front room a lounge is common. Worse, a friend of hers recently admonished her daughter for calling a toilet, a toilet. Lavatory darling. It's lavatory."

My own mother refused to let me use the word 'oblong' instead of 'rectangle'. Which is just odd, to be honest.

What stuff do you think is common?

oooohh, tricky...
You're half right I suppose. The 3 Series sells more then the Ford Mondeo nowadays, and I always get cut up by some cockney wanker in a 316 in East London.

But you also get those hideous X5s being driven around in Chelsea but middle-class mummies carting their brats about.

I reckon its fair to say BMWs are actually quite class-neutral, in that it appeals to wankers of whatever social divide.

Hmm, yes.
I think your last sentence pretty much nails it, really.

Although... "cockney wanker in a 316" - surely a 316 has far too small an engine to adequately compensate for a nouveau riche 3-series driver's minuscule penis? (Hooray, a length joke!)
