This is a question Conspicuous Consumption

Have you ever been photographed sat on a balcony eating a croissant; or wallowed in luxury just for the sake of it? What's the most ostentatious thing you ever seen or done?

What do you do for a living?
If I might ask.
(, Mon 1 Aug 2011, 14:25, 2 replies)

I work in a Financial Brokerage in the City.

THE CITY!

City of London sorry...
(, Mon 1 Aug 2011, 14:32, closed)
No,
we're sorry.

^What he said^
FFS. Spend five minutes in a pub in the city to know all you'll ever need to know about these people.

Dear Christ.

I think tarring all city people with the same brush is pretty ignorant, yes some are loaded, obnoxious wankers, but that doesn't apply to all.

Ha Ha, yeah alright, it does come across badly.

Yes - you have sold your right to any righteous indignation or sanctimonious commentaries on morality or behaviour.
That belongs to us now.

You just enjoy your trinkets and toys.
(, Mon 1 Aug 2011, 16:03, closed)

I personally earn a very average wage, so no trinkets and toys for me I'm afraid, I have nothing now.
(, Mon 1 Aug 2011, 16:06, closed)
It can't be that average if you've got liquity for 75k to go on booze.
Expenses account or no.

I didn't front the money, it was my boss, I was merely an observer / participant

Indeed
I stayed in the Hoxton hotel once in London for a gig, it was full of banker/money cunts, I have never felt such utter loathing for humanity as I felt sitting in that bar and earwigging the conversations.

This is the receipt I was talking about from the Wynn Hotel in Vegas, absolutely shocking. I'm not of the circumstances but it's ridiculous whatever they were... img33.imageshack.us/img33/930/img0458yj.jpg

What are the two red bull things for 100 somethings, super vodka red bulls?

Which lightweight had the small San Pellegrino?

(, Mon 1 Aug 2011, 16:37, closed)

I'm shocked the place had the balls to charge them for a San Pellegrino after they'd spent 189 grand. The worst thing is the 29 grand service charge, surely it gets to a point where service should be capped rather than a %!
(, Mon 1 Aug 2011, 16:44, closed)
Fuck 'em.
They should have doubled it.
(, Mon 1 Aug 2011, 16:49, closed)
Not that I doubt your original story
but this isn't a receipt from a bill run up by a City brokerage firm. This was posted on Twitter by a writer from Sports Illustrated:

https://twitter.com/#!/SI_BenReiter/status/68762417047412736

So, unless you have some special knowledge of where this receipt came from that the rest of the internet lack, I call bullshit. Especially given that it's reportedly photoshopped anyway.
(, Tue 2 Aug 2011, 0:23, closed)

I was told it was from a city brokerage firm, the chain of emails I got it on originated from mf global, so presumed it was from there. Either way the Ibiza spend happened.
(, Tue 2 Aug 2011, 8:07, closed)
yuck
MF Global - used to work there.

Massive bunch of cunts.
(, Tue 2 Aug 2011, 15:57, closed)
And
I always trusted email chains. I feel so foolish :-(

But your original story could easily be true. 10 - 20 people over 4 days could easily spend that much, especially if it's not coming out of their own pockets.

And there are wankers and decent people in the City, same as there are wankers and decent people in every industry. The difference being that most wankers working at Tesco don't have enough money for Ferrarris and expensive hookers, so don't attract the same level of vitriolic hatred we save for those we don't like and who earn more than us...
(, Wed 3 Aug 2011, 15:44, closed)
Oi,
It wasn't my story.
(, Tue 2 Aug 2011, 8:42, closed)
I
know and blame my injudicious selection of "reply" button.

Must have the seven jeroboams of Grey Goose I had last night.
(, Wed 3 Aug 2011, 15:47, closed)
I call bullshit
A couple of points - the top tables on the upper balcony at Amnesia cost €5k, with a minimum spend of €3k (included in the price), and a bottle of Goose there costs €400, not £500. Work in the ForEx and you're looking at the equivalent of c.215 bottles of Vodka between 8-14 of you. Even just spending on Champagne at £550 a bottle you're looking at over 34 bottles a night. Just doesn't add up...
(, Mon 1 Aug 2011, 17:03, closed)

It wasn't just grey goose and standard bottles of champagne being drunk, there was loads of expensive wines over dinner, vintage magnums of Dom Perignon rose (some of which got poured over people) anyway I stand to gain nothing by making this up. I'm not really sure why I'm bothering to explain myself.
