This is a question Creepy!

Smash Monkey asks: "what's the creepiest thing you've seen, heard or felt? What has sent shivers running up your spine and skidmarks running up your undercrackers? Tell us, we'll make it all better"

Royden
There's a little place in Kent called Royden. It's probably not even a village; more of a hamlet. It's well-known for being a spooky place (derelict church yard etc.) There's also a mansion there which is alleged to be the home of a satanic cult.

When me and missus used to go to church, a couple of fellow church-goers (Mike and Marion were their names) invited us back to their house (in Royden) for Sunday lunch. On the drive to their house, Mike described something he'd seen a few weeks previously: a dark shape had descended the bank on one side of the lane we were driving down, crossed the road in front of their car, then disappeared from view.

After lunch, was standing in Mike and Marion's front garden and taking in the view. The house overlooks the Kent Downs, so the view was of hilly fields backed by woodland.

As I stood there, a dark form emerged from the woods and descended the hill. It was about 100 yards away and from the points of reference available (fences, trees etc.), I deduced the thing to be roughly 8-10 feet in diameter. Although it was roughly circular, it strangely didn't have a discernible shape and the best way to describe its movement would be to say that it floated.

I describe the thing as "dark" but that doesn't do it justice: it was so dark as to be almost beyond black. If a mini black hole were to manifest itself on Earth, I would imagine this is what it would look like. The form was so dark that it had a malevolence about it.

After floating down the hill from the woods for 2-3 minutes, it simply disappeared. I don't know if I was somehow open to suggestion, based on Mike's story earlier and that maybe there was a simple explanation: a black rubbish sack floating in the wind perhaps. But it was real enough and malevolent enough to have left an impression on me to this day, seven years later.

I'd hate to be the one to link church-attendance with credulity.
So I wo... Oh, bugger.
