This is a question Family codes and rituals

Freddy Woo writes, "as a child we used to have a 'whoever cuts doesn't choose the slice' rule with cake. It worked brilliantly, but it's left me completely anal about dividing up food - my wife just takes the piss as I ritually compare all the slice sizes."

What codes and rituals does your family have?

If you count Mr Bin and myself as a family
then I guess we have a few.

- if a news report says "a man has appeared in court/ before magistrates" then we go 'ping'. To represent him appearing by magic you see.

- if a news report refers to someone having 'not been named' or 'having been named by police' we remark on how remiss it was of the parents to not get round to naming the person involved.

- if it comes up in conversation as to whether an actor is dead or not we will say 'no, you're thinking of Denholm Elliot'.

It's a wonder we don't have any friends!

oh I do that!
the 'person has not been named' thing. Nobody except me ever finds it amusing. I think it may be because EVERY time I hear that the victim has not been named, I say 'Oh, luckily I have a name so nothing bad will ever happen to me'. God, it wasn't even funny the first time...

Quizzed by police
Whenever they say "quizzed by police" I always imagine a reverse Weakest Link situation where the suspect is in Anne Robinson's position surrounded by coppers. It has the music and everything.
