This is a question I'm your biggest Fan

Tell us about your heroes. No. Scratch that.

Tell us about the lengths you've gone to in order to show your devotion to your heroes. Just how big a fan are you?

and we've already heard the fan jokes, thankyou

Not me, but a twat I know
Had this horrid fixation with the Darkness. I had no idea who this terrible band were until they did a free gig in London. My friend was bawling in the line for the autographs because she couldn't believe she was about to meet Justin Hawkins! NEVER have I wanted to attack someone so badly in my life! I found myself edging away in the autograph que, which I only joined to chat up the person with the nice arse in front of me!!!

She couldn't even let me do that though.

Stupid friend kept fucking distracting the person I was trying to chat up with her incessant wailing!

This did not bide well with trippeh as I kept getting so close to getting a phone number....yet so far away! Hot person looked over and said in a creeped-out tone "is SHE a friend of yours???"

Idiot friend kept calling over to me to literally hold her hand because she was "getting overwhelmed by breathing the same air" as Justin fucking Hawkins! I mean....have you SEEN the twunt?? This does not look good! There goes my chances of getting a phone number as she has made us look like stalkers of freaks who need urgent dentistry!!!

VENDETTA.

She could have fucking killed me when the lead singer offered me an autograph and I responded "Do I know you?"

We're not friends anymore, not due to that incident, but she wouldn't shut up about it all the way home and kept smelling her autograph like a pervert!

To this day I cannot think of a band more embarrassing to obsess over.

I had to interview him a few years ago for a Eurovision thing

Ding dong!
The magic word :)

I went to see them live before they were really famous
And, whilst they were good fun, you clearly couldn't take them too seriously, let alone obsess over them in the way you describe...which is frankly quite disturbing.

A more embarrassing band to obsess over? Well, just hypothetically speaking, how about Wham!...or possibly Whigfield? KISS?

Kiss, my arse
Just don't get them. please add them to my frankly enormous list of 'just don't get thems' - includes Bowie, Bolan, Clash, Cure, Springsteen, Dylan..........

I agree with you on most of those
but recently I have developed a massive love of Bowie and the Cure.

My problem with the Cure
is not really their fault - it's simply that they are middle of the road pop (or have been since A Forest and those quite good, quite dark tunes) that is lumped into 'alternative' because of Robert Smith's hair and little else. Fuck me, Lovecats is not goth, it's fucking bent.

My problem isn't really Bowie actually - but people who are 'reaaaallly into Bowie, man' (not you, dear chap). He wasn't very original apart from in terms of presentation as far as I can see and has a weak voice.

If it's tranny-rock I want to hear I go to the New York Dolls....

the Cure have a lot of albums, and some of them are actually quite gothy
and that is the stuff that I like (for the most part. I do love Lovecats)

same with Bowie I guess, you have to listen to the right stuff. The early stuff is awesome.

I get concerned occasionally that I am one of those sorts of people you mention, because I really love a lot of music, and if you get me going I will happily enthuse about it for hours...

I am too
but I'm also a music Nazi and can scathingly put down stuff I don't like as easily as I can enthuse. I care so much about it that I can rant and rave like a mentalist, at the drop of a hat.

So much so that I've been offered a slot DJing on a pirate station - a feature of which will be a section called 'Mock the Weak', where I play something popular that I think is shit - followed by something similar that I think is ace, and explain why I've come to both conclusions.

oh the humanity...
How did you cope?

By being rude and arrogant.

Well done.
