Not being able to hear above background noise is very commonOften I simply smile or nod or laugh in reply to what I think has been said but in reality all I heard was, "Blah, blah, hmm, gnnuoof"
Many times people have taken me for an utter idiot.
Sometimes it's even when I've misheard things.
