This is a question Heroes and villains of 2011

Who were your heroes or villains of the last year, and why? Who inspired you? Who had you kicking the cat across the room? They don't have to be well known, you might even want to laud the achievements of your binman. (Note that "Nick Clegg nuff said" answers puts you straight onto our naughty list)

One of my heroes of the year is Gareth Malone
If for no other reason than how ballsy he has been in setting up his choirs, beating X-Factor to the number one single (without resorting to tracks that were shit when they were first released, let alone 15-20 years later, i.e. RATM & Nirvana), and just coming across on screen as an alright bloke.

/awaits inevitable shouting down.

the choir
weren't very good though were they?
despite it being a good cause etc etc

they were shite, cause was shite

(, Tue 3 Jan 2012, 13:02, closed)
was it?
raising money for people with bits blown off them isn't shite
stop being so silly

It is a bit shite though aint it, if they weren't in Afghanistan showing Johnny Raghead the merits of American foreign policy they wouldn't be 'heroes' having their legs and bollocks blown off

oh
thats alright then (?????)
2 wrongs do make a right after all!

Well - to be fair
If someone asks "If I give you this shiny penny, will you go somewhere incredibly dangerous where you'll be surrounded by people who want to kill you?" and you say "Yes", then ... really ... it's your own fault.

It's not like they were conscripted.

yes...
as a former 'member' of the armed forces -agreed
but its a bit mean spirited not to help them if they get bits blown off them isnt it?

like I said: 2 wrongs don't make a right

Christ no, I was quite fond of the song at first, but it started to grate on me the closer we got to Christmas.

He seems likeable enough
but I'm still not sure that getting a sympathy record to no. 1 is much better than an X-factor pile of shite.

Used to be that the charts were based on music.

Any charity but Simon Cowell's back pocket seems to be the way that people look at it these days.

Never...
...invite me to a party where you're DJ'ing.

I'd rather go for heavier stuff. Also, whilst it wasn't a great song, The Choir were still better than the shite X-Factor pumps out every year
RATM have done some cracking tunes, but KITNO is not one of them. They should have released Sleep Now In The Fire, or Testify. Nirvana are simply proof that death is good for business.

I have no idea
what you're on about, which is most likely a pleasant side effect of not listening to chart radio.
(, Tue 3 Jan 2012, 15:34, closed)
Radio reception for me is crap
As a result, my choice in the morning is between Radio 1 and Radio 2.

Radio 2, everytime. Chris Evans was promoting the song massively, so I'd end up hearing it most mornings.

Tragic.
My brother is forced to listen to Radio 2, at work, so I get to hear how shitty it is via text.
(, Tue 3 Jan 2012, 16:17, closed)
It's still better than Radio 1, and the other shite they play in our place, absolutely awful
