Munchausen's Syndrome and the Liar's Paradox.One of the reply threads below concerns Munchausen's Syndrome, wherein people invent illnesses for themselves. And it's made me think of the "Liar's paradox". If a person says, "Everything I say is false", do we believe him? If the statement is true, then it's false, and vice versa.
Now: Munchausen's is a recognised psychiatric condition. An illness, if you will. So can a person fictitiously claim that they are suffering from Munchausen's syndrome? If they do make this claim, then they might turn out to be suffering from it after all - in which case, the statement would be true and thereby self-refuting (since Munchausen's dictates that the statement would have to be false).
In other words, can you be Munchausen about Munchausen?
Does it show that I'm facing a pile of menial administrative tasks today? Bah!

The Adventures of Baron Munchausenhas got to be one of my top all-time favorite films ever. It's sadly neglected, and totally bombed at the box office.

Saying you've got cancer'cos you're nuts hurt doesn't sound like Munchausen's syndrome. It's to override the fact that his wife is a big fat ugly pig - as his friend explained "My nuts would hurt too if I had to have sex with that"
