Lies Your Parents Told YouI once overheard a neighbour use the phrase "nig nog". I asked my father what it meant. As quick as a flash he said, "It's a type of biscuit. A bit like a hobnob." Chewing gum and flashingAccording to my mum, chewing gum is made with candle wax. When you chew it, the wax melts and then resolidifies in your stomach.
On the other hand, we were woken at night to enjoy the spectacle of thunderstorms. Only years later did I learn that my mum was terrified of them but was determined that we wouldn't be.
