toenail resection
... I think they call it. I've had several. First was NHS - full operating theatre job (though not under general anaesthesia) to take almost the entire nail off. After a week's hobbling about, it slowly grew back worse.
Remainder all done by a chiropodist. He said he'd never known anyone watch the whole process quite so closely... Highlights for me were the ligature thing to minimise blood flow and applying the phenol. I couldn't look away, and didn't want to. Maybe because of the previous screw up, or because of the butchery of my dad's feet by an army surgeon for the same complaint (well, there was a war on - but is crippling your own men the way to win?) Or I'm just weird - yes, that's probably it. Sorry about the involuntary indecent exposure, though - hate those gowns!
