This is a question How nerdy are you?

This week Gary Gygax, co-creator of Dungeons and Dragons, died. A whole generation of pasty dice-obsessed nerds owes him big time. Me included.

So, in his honour, how nerdy were you? Are you still sunlight-averse? What are the sad little things you do that nobody else understands?

As an example, a B3ta regular who shall remain nameless told us, "I spent an entire school summer holiday getting my BBC Model B computer to produce filthy stories from an extensive database of names, nouns, adjectives, stock phrases and deviant sexual practices. It revolutionised the porn magazine dirty letter writing industry for ever.

Revel in your own nerdiness.

airsoft
It's manly nerdiness.

It's a sport, God forbid you question that, and it costs lots of money.

Examples of it's nerdery:

I paid £150+ for a metal kit for my M16A2 to convert it into an XM16E1. Difference? A single feature. The brass deflector.

People with M4 variants. It's never an M4. It's an M4 CQBR with a collapsible stock. Or an M4A1 converted into an M16 with a shorter barrel.

And what's worst is now i watch films... and watch the guns. Check the period of the weapon to make sure it's in check (i.e. are they using M4s in the 'Nam flick on the TV? *DING* Wrong! They are, but not meant to be!), check it's loaded or unloaded... and the worst part of all:

Check the size of the magazine, and then make sure they don't fire more than the allotted bullets in said magazine.

Airsoft has damaged me somewhat, and i am now a gun nerd. I'm sure it's a contradiction and that i may collapse the universe as we know it.

!
I count how many shots fired in films and on TV too!

And I look at the way they aim the gun.......usually not realistic at all.

there's no contradiction in being a gun nerd.
It just means you're likely to shoot the President to impress Stephen Hawking.

erm...
I think I would quite love to get into airsoft... have loved paintball (and been pretty good at it) the few times I've done it and the whole gunpron element to airsoft is tough to resist! I think the only thing that holds me back is that I'm in London and don't drive so getting around (with realistic firearms) is a slight issue. Any advice?

There is (was?) an indoor airsoft centre at Shepherds Bush - transporting airsoft rifles is usually done in the box (with the lid reversed) and with the red plastic plug in the barrel!

Sorry but
Airsoft is right up there with morris dancing.

Why not join the army?
