those scientific terms
My favourite thing about them is that someone had to name them. Easiest job in the world...
(, Sun 4 May 2008, 23:25, closed)
apparently...
there are less rules for naming stuff than you might think. One of my lecturers (paeleo-botonist) has named a lot of stuff, including naming one plant after Laura Dern (who was in Jurassic park). Laurata Dernis or something. So yeh, naming stuff would be the easiest job in the world which is why its so easy to come up with complete bollocks to sell things like activia. That one really pisses me off. Especially the advert that said something along the lines of "90% of people who ate suffered digestive discomfort felt better after 14 days of eating activia." OF COURSE THEY DID! if you have 'digestive discomfort' and it's not better after 14 days without doing anything at all there could well be something seriously wrong with you!

Thanks for listing this one, it saved me spilling my own impotent rage
