This is a question Phobias

What gives you the heebie-jeebies?

It's a bit strong to call this a phobia, but for me it's the thought of biting into a dry flannel. I've no idea why I'd ever want to or even get the opportunity to do so, seeing as I don't own one, but it makes my teeth hurt to think about it. *ewww*

Tell us what innocent things make you go pale, wobbly and send shivers down your spine.

Maths
I don't like numbers
they don't like me

if I have to do mental arithmatic, I just can't, my brain turns to treacle and refuses to process the numbers. I panic and tell myself that I'm stupid rather than figure out the answer.

strange as I'm pretty good at equasions/theory of maths. and I'm really not thick...

but ask me to ad 24 and 68 and i'l turn to jelly, ask me to multiply something and I'm a cowering wreck

I agree with
All of this, apart from "strange as I'm pretty good at equasions/theory of maths."

Numbers make me feel powerfully retarded.

I do it weird
To add 24 and 68, I couldn't do in my head the whole "Okay, 4+8 = 12, so the answer will end in a 2...okay, carry the 1, 1+2+6=9, so we've got 92" bit that they teach you to use when you have paper on hand - it's like juggling too many balls and I'd drop one (i.e. forget a number).

So I do it by using the (commutative? associative? I forget which is which) property , trying to go towards multiples of ten, like this:
24 + 68
=24 + (60 + 8)
=(24 + 60) + 8 [just move the parentheses]
=84 + 8
=92.

Or for 45 times 64:
45 * 64
=45 * (2 * 32)
=(45 * 2) * 32
=90 * 32
=9 * 10 * 32
=9 * 320
=(10 - 1) * 320
=(10 * 320) - (1 * 320)
=3200 - 320
=3200 - 200 - 120
=3000 - 120
=3000 - 100 - 20
=2900 - 20
=2880
