This is a question Professions I Hate

Broken Arrow says: Bankers, recruitment consultants, politicians. What professions do you hate and why?

Lawyers / Barristers / Solicitors
Anyone who tries to get someone acquitted of a crime they know they committed. I'm sorry, but if you KNOW they did it, then don't be a smarmy, self-important, "its a game really" nonce-bucket; have some morals - admit their guilt and get the best deal for them, just don't try and get them off scot-free.

Well....
...you know, technically, if they think their client is guilty they are not allowed to represent them.

... which is why they never ask!

Morals Vs Fat Fee...?
is why they don't ask. This was my first post by the way! Thanks for replying all!!!

Where does Mr Loophole fit into that?
Doesn't bother claiming innocence - just works on abstruse points of law in order to get them acquitted...

Almost certainly one of the least-worthy human beings ever to draw breath. Complete abdication of morality.

Hmmmm...I suppose it could be seen as 'innocence' if the law hasn't been sufficiently defined?

It's a guess, so don't kill me.

Even a werewolf
is entitled to legal representation.

Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong.
They're not trying to get them acquitted; they're trying to get them a fair trial. Both sides of the argument have to be seen. This is the theory anyway; I'll grant there are those in the legal profession who don't care as long as they win, and that the system generally isn't perfect.
By your reasonong, though, people should only be taken to court (without lawyers!) if they're guilty...which is what court's there to decide. Your logic is circular like pie. Mmm...pie logic...

I don't know how you arrive at that! My point is "if they KNOW they are guilty" - not that everyone who goes to court is guilty!

Sorry
I am going to have to agree with the law being at fault and not he other way round. That's the depressing downside of having a so-called free society I am afraid. And a sizeable proportion of the real scumbags are dealt with under legal aid and that is no way to riches for anyone representing them! Wouldn't it make more sense to hate the funwits that have actually committed the crime!

I met one of these people at a party once
I think I was quite rude to him - he was talking about representing disadvantaged teens through legal aid, and at the time I was embroiled in an ongoing contre-temps with a gang of disadvantaged teens who saw fit to break the windows of my flat for their amusement. It's funny how you get more right wing as you get older, isn't it?

It doesn't mean
that some lawyers aren't twunts but I know from bitter experience of witnessing Mrs Number 5 running our entire legal aid system over here that even good lawyers can get lumbered with utter cat's rings to deal with.
