This is a question Public Transport Trauma

Completely Underwhelmed writes, "I was on a bus the other day when a man got on wearing shorts, over what looked like greeny grey leggings. Then the stench hit me. The 'leggings' were a mass of open wounds, crusted with greenish solidified pus that flaked off in bits as he moved."

What's the worst public transport experience you've ever had?

Not my Nightmare, but definately someone elses.
Welcome to Sweden.

The Bus drivers in towns are sat low in the busses, and consider themselves to be "at one" with the traffic: bumping shoulders with cyclist very rarely.

They also run on time... but at rush hour there are pedestrians swarming all over the place with a "It's my legal right to walk here so I won't check for traffic" attitude to pedestrian crossings. This Attitude is potentially Fatal.

In this particular case the bus driver failed to notice the 50 year old woman disappear under his bus, and only stopped when people ran into the road to stop him.

Note the smeery line from the back... That's what happens when you wear through clothes.

To add insult to injury, when the driver stopped to open the door, the bus did what all of these busses do: Lowered it's suspension 150mm on one side...

As far as I know the lady survived, but was seriously injured.

ALWAYS CHECK WHEN YOU CROSS THE ROAD... Just because you're in a pedestrian crossing DOES NOT mean that you can walk without looking.

^^^^^^^ Scratch that.. the Gene-pool needs a little Chlorine. If you're one fo them, keep doing it: we don't need you anyway.

It's quite a big smear to miss (bottom pic).

Pavements are for pedestrians, roads are for traffic
Pedestrian crossings aside, if you're crossing a road you should give way to the traffic. Likewise, if you're in charge of a vehicle you shouldn't drive/ride it on the pavements, unless you have no other option, and then only very slowly, giving way to pedestrians.

I hope they threw away the key
Jumping lights at populated pedestrian crossings == attempted murder.

I'm surprised
more people in Switzerland don't end up as jam. The number of times I've seen someone rebounding off of a stationary three-car, multiple-ton tram because they couldn't be arsed to look before crossing the road. I'm always amused by the people who think they can also stare down public transport when stepping out just in front of it here.

^ this
although here in Barcelona, its mostly the other way round - cars drive through pedestrian crossings (at green men) due to the ridiculous system they have here - at least in the UK most, if not all places, all lights go red at the same time - here no - one direction, with the crossing having the red light/green man - resulting in many an unwitting game of chicken while crossing the street. Also the number of people who run off of the buses, straight into the path of bicycles (since they let out onto the bike lanes, rather stupidly) is fucking unbelievable. I have yet to see someone bounce off a tram, though I have seen it happen with a bus

thing next to curb..
I assume you're talknig about the cobbled area in the upper photo... That's a bus-stop. Cobbles are far more resistant to wear and busses standing still..

"hope they threw way the key" ... It wasn't a crossing with traffic lights. The driver simply failed to see the pedestrian.

UK Pelican crossings...
Some dickhead decided to make the crossing posts with fucking LIGHTS in them. Theyclearly weren't thinking.

Sure... you can see the posts, but the brigh post obscures EVERYTHING behind it. Including pedestrians who think "Oh, I have right of way" and march out from behind a wall of light... *BAM*

They're dangerous and downright stupid, and whoever thought of them needs to be shafted by one. Lights an' all.

nice
well, not nice but you know what I mean.

Drivers can be twats but pedestrians don't make the situation easier for themselves do they?
