This wasyears ago, pre-Big-Brother-central-database days. I was driving home from work and got stopped as I was out late and was given a ticket produce relevant documents at the station. I was two weeks out-of-date with the MOT, thinking the MOT date was later than it was so took a risk but was bright enough to make the date "just in date" and because I had to get the car tested again so soon (within a couple of weeks) they accepted the copy.
Didn't like the feeling I got and I've never been close to doing it again either.
