This is a question Amazing displays of ignorance

Sandettie Light Vessel Automatic tells us: "My dad's friend told us there's no such thing as gravity - it's just the weight of air holding us down". Tell us of times you've been floored by abject stupidity. "Whenever I read the Daily Express" is not a valid answer.

According to Richard Dawkins' latest book
19% of Brits don't know what a year is and think the earth goes around the sun once a month.

* Edit: Okay, wow. I only said it was in his book, because I didn't have time to look up the actual survey. It's from the Eurobarometer. They did a special science one in 2005.

Didn't realise people would react so strongly to his mention. *

the earth goes round a newspaper once a month?

That's as maybe, but Richard Dawkins is a smug, condescending wanker.
I'd have trouble believing him if he said the sky was blue.

smug, condescending wanker?
Have you actually read any of his books? Have you been to any of his lectures? Have you been personally tutored by him?

Are you, indeed, aware that he is a. a staggeringly intelligent and driven individual who has contributed more to the study and public understanding of the process of evolution than Darwin himself, and b. that he is the direct target of a number of hugely invested special interest groups in media and government desperately clinging on to their religion-based power and wealth?

Because if all you are basing your assertion on is a knee jerk reaction to a few choice clips of him expressing exasperation or outrage at poorly educated bigoted inhumane fools, then you are profoundly letting yourself down and making yourself sound like a massive idiot.

If you *have* actually read his books or listened *in whole* to any of his lectures, then I am alarmed, but at least respectful of your view, but I reserve the right to my opinion that you are actually deeply ignorant and, worse, glorying in the fact.

Would you mind summarising that rant in 10 words or less?

of course
"deeply ignorant and happy with it"

Phew
That told you eh? Now off you go and have a wank over Mr Dawkins.

Really?
And how does that change the fact that he is a smug condescending wanker?
(, Mon 22 Mar 2010, 20:38, closed)
erm
no.
