This is a question Amazing displays of ignorance

Sandettie Light Vessel Automatic tells us: "My dad's friend told us there's no such thing as gravity - it's just the weight of air holding us down". Tell us of times you've been floored by abject stupidity. "Whenever I read the Daily Express" is not a valid answer.

A subtle difference
I overheard the quality manager of the scientific services company I work for describing the difference between milli and mega as "nuanced".

I'm not sure, but I'm quietly confident that 9 orders of magnitude does not count as a nuance.

Please
do not tell me he also does not understand that putting either m or M makes, well 9 orders of magnitude difference. *Cries*

I'm a forensic scientist
I have had to battle for weeks to prevent people referring to 10^15 level statisitcs as "in the order of 1 in 1 billion".

Apparently my factual objection doesn't matter as "the jury won't understand the difference anyway".

Who are these contemptuous enemies of justice?
If they give the jury the facts, and the jury gets it wrong, it's the jury's fault.

If they don't bother giving the jury the facts, and the jury gets it wrong, that's their fault (not the jury's). And they're as bad as the criminals the defendants are alleged to be.

Do these enemies of justice also ignore the difference between P(A|B) and P(B|A)?

Any chance you could be a whistle-blower for such travesties of justice?

FOR I AM OUTRAGED!

I'm less of a whistle-blower
more of a patient-explainer-with-many-weary-sighs.

and thankfully everyone here is quite stern about transposed conditionals. The only time I've encountered them in court is from some of the less respectable defence 'experts'.
