This is a question The Boss

My chief at a large retail chain used to decide on head office redundancies by chanting "One potato, two potato" over the staff list. Tell us about your mad psycho bosses - collect your P45 on the way out.

It's been said, but I'll chime in:
I tip. I tip bloody well in fact. I've been known on a couple of occasions to tip 50% of the bill because the service was fantastic. However, I only tip if they deserve it.

My local Chinese restaurant used to have a tip jar at the counter, which I would normally bung a fiver in. But they recently started adding a service charge to the bill as well. From then on, no tips, and I refuse to pay the service charge. The place is a self-serve buffet anyway, all the staff do is seat you and take a drinks order.

I, and also several of my family, have at one time or another worked in cafes, restaurants and the like. Not one of us agrees that there should be a service charge.
