My Great-Uncle left me his visitors book which along with boring people like the Queen and Harold Wilson has Spike Milligan's signature in it. It's all loopy.

As a counterpointI wouldn't be able to do my job without my first degree and I wouldn't be able to do anything like as well without my masters. So while I agree that getting a degree doesn't mean you will always earn more, not all degrees are a waste of time. For example, I would not like to be treated by a doctor who failed his (or her) degree
