That doesnt involve massive drugs

Supermodels and hondas should do it.

A large box of Tesco Value tissues
and some back issues of Razzle?

Massive drugs are normally the cause of insomnia rather than the cure
unless it's jellies, of course.

I'd be happy
even if I could find a drug that worked more than once. I was put on sleeping pills for my insomnia. They worked for two nights, after which they just made me hallucinate, while still staying up all night. The only time they worked after that was when I took two with a fifth of vodka. I'm inclined to think it was more the vodka at work there, too.

A notebook and a pen.
Positioned next to your bed.

Try it.

You'll need to be aware when your brain is fizzing with thoughts, and write them down in the book. You may or may not want to read them again in the morning, but it might help.

Tried everything
anyone has ever suggested, even really quack ideas.
Only 2 things work, dangerous amounts of alcohol or sleeping pills
Doc wont prescribe pills any more
The annoying thing about still being awake at 4am is sleeping through half a saturday, what a waste

What about
Tying a barn owl to your face just before sleep time?
(, Sat 16 Oct 2010, 17:04, closed)
I have no idea what that means
But it made me laugh, ta :)

How about.,.,
A saucepan. Over the head with force and speed.

On a more serious note, let me know when you find that cure!

I just recomended this to an insomniac friend and she's enjoying it.
The Gormenghast Trilogy by Mervyn Peake.

To read it is to feel as if you're dreaming.

If that fails, it's about 3" thick - hit yourself over the head with it

One of the things im told
Is never read before going to bed, or watch TV , or do anything that stimulates the mind.

Get someone to ring up and talk at you about mortgages for an hour and a half.

Big Rectangles of White Light
So, my fab book is discounted on principle but because 'they' haven't said the same thing about computers then here you are?
Well here's me TELLING you that staring into a very bright light may well unhinge the old sleeping mechanism.

When I used to work nights in a mail room, we had a trick if you were drowsy. This would only be undertaken in desperation at about 4:20a.m. after 5 or 6 vending machine 'custom-blend' 'coffees'.

- Place your nose on the photocopier glass and press the button. (N.B. DO NOT try to use the auto-feed!)

Your brain now thinks it is morning and wakes up. Apparently.

Just lie and tell me you'll try the book

top tip
I rarely need to do things to keep me awake, but heres a thing that really works.
Put on a different pair of shoes
I have no idea why it works, but its instant wide awake
(, Sun 17 Oct 2010, 12:57, closed)
obviously an effort but
good food and bastard hard, outdoor physical labour should do it.
(, Sat 16 Oct 2010, 21:04, closed)
I wish
I was able to do physical labour
I need a stick to walk a lot of the time :(
(, Sun 17 Oct 2010, 12:59, closed)

sorry...!
(, Sun 17 Oct 2010, 16:23, closed)

No worries

Joking aside...
Sex works really well for me, when I'm single and sleepless I can't wait to get into a relationship so I can get some bloody sleep again!

Failing that, eat at 7pm at the latest. Go for a short walk about 9pm, don't watch TV or play computer games after 9pm, go and have a bath, with lavender in it, read a book by dull light and see how you go.

I struggle with insomnia but if I've had a really bad few weeks I use this routine and it works pretty well for me.
