A have a good friendwho did exactly this. Decided he needs a trials bike to lark around on and occupy him while spending a summer in the Lake District. So he flogs some stuff, gets given a frame which he gets sandblasted and nicely painted, then spends stupid - really, stupid - money getting the rest of the bits. Credit where it's due though, he did a really good job.
First go out on the thing he picks up a sizeable stone which gets flung along the chain into the gear mech. Tears the fucker straight off.
He was not best pleased.
