nightmare
A friend and I went to see The Wonder Stuff at Brixton Academy back in the day. After a few encores and getting out the venue we were shocked at the time and realised we had missed the last tube. So shitting ourselves we walked through Brixton at about one in the morning with no idea where we were. Eventually we found a station but were informed there were no more trains. After whining about our predicament a kindly train driver said he could take us as far as Bedford, which without any other option we did, the only snag was that this was a mail train and sitting on big sacks of letters isn’t as comfy as it sounds. Arriving in Bedford at about 4:30am on a cold November night we decided to have a wander round until we realised there was absolutely nothing there, not even a 24hr garage. Reluctantly we went back to the station and huddled in the waiting room on the platform around a little Victorian radiator. Our tranquillity was only spoilt when a group of local tramps discovered us in their regular haunt. We just sat there politely refusing swigs from various bottles and enjoying reluctantly the warmth created by the constant farting from these piss ridden and toothless simpletons until the first train back home pulled into the station like a big long diesel fuel angel.
