The suthu'n drawl is surely just decay. Folks got cut off from civilization and culture fermented. Of course that's America in a nutshell.

I don't know
-- the NPR thing was pretty clear on it being more like the Hollywood accent that we tend to think of as no accent, I think. I wanted to say Northern but then there is Minnesota, also Massachusetts. I really don't know, I'm from northern California myself duuuude, whoa.
